In Greek mythology, Erebus (Greek: Ερεβος, Erebos, "darkness"), also known as Scotus (Greek: Σκοτος, Skotos, "darkness"), was the personified god of darkness. In Hesiod's Theogony, Erebus is the son of Chaos and is one of the first beings to come into existence. He consorted with his sister, Nyx, and fathered many children, including AetherHemera, Sophrosyne, Epiphron, Hybris, and Eleos.
